Looks like my Von Dutch Triumph just got uglier, if that's possible...

Bummer.
Still a cool looking bike, though.

Sometimes these things happen.
Now, are you going to fish or cut bait? |

Its amazing how something so cool at one time can go so bad.
Makes me wonder what happened to Johnny that let his once prideful bike turn into someones yard ornamant.

looks pretty darn good to me.
maybe needs a couple of grips and the plate straightened out. other than that this is a great find. never mind the von dutch or the price. its a pre unit period custom. myself, i would consider taking some of that front end out. cut it down 8 inchers or so, and ride it as it is. mechanicals as needed of course. if those are Forks by Frank (RIP) , the company is said to provide cutting service of their tubes for free. maybe you already know this, but they will say forks by frank embossed in the lower portion of the tube. when/if you have them taken apart, check it out. this is one cool machine! you do come up with some winners. |

well i just read the linked story.
thats too bad , dave, about the case. just about everything else sounds par for the old bike course. so beyond the case, its pretty much a normal rebuild. you got a good head, sleevable cylinders, a crank you can salvage, and most of all, access to top shops. for everything else, there's Master Card. i will be looking forward to following this rebuild for sure! good luck! Another Von Dutch chopper, this one truly lost. The "Triley Davidrumph" (Triumph engine, Harley frame) was built by Dutch in the mid-'70s during his Tempe, AZ period. Previous owner Jeff Knapp (takeaknapp1@juno.com) is searching for the bike.

Chin up Dave. This is like finding a Wyatt Earp owned Colt Single Action pistol with a 12" barrell with provenance(and buying it for a song)! Who cares if it's rusted and the cyllinder is falling out. I'd get that thing back on the road , with the minimum of cosmetic work, and enjoy it man.
my old ratty bike wasn't ever owned by anyone notable(besides me, that is), and I love it, you lucky old dog, you!
