I've got the Shoei with the flip up front. Don't know what model it is and I'm too lazy to go out in the garage and check.

Most comfortable helmet I have ever worn, bar none. I also own a Nolan, which I bought for the NCom system (which works great, btw), and an HJC. The Shoei is quieter than either of those which are full face.

Arai's don't fit my mellon. The Shoei works great with sunglasses and the shields change out quickly. Venting also works well. Don't have a scratch in the shield and the clear, which I use most of the time, is the same one that came with it 3 years ago.

Well worth the money.

The Nolan isn't bad, but not as comfy as the Shoei, and for a helmet comfort is right at the top of my checklist.

I have a scorpion, the one with the rebok pump for the chin pads, and thought it was amazing. Then bought a shoe and the comfort level is 10x better than the scorpion.

That's why I use shoe. Haven't tried arai out yet.

I did the exact opposite, I guess. Went from a RF1000 to a Scorpion EXO 1000. Shoei was more comfortable and had slightly better visibility, Scorpion had better features and a better price. Until my current lid, I've only worn Shoei, so I took a chance on a different manufacturer. Happy with the EXO 1000, but there is a pretty good chance I'll go back to Shoei.

Which is quieter?

Do you like the little flippy-down sunglasses or is it just a gimmick on the Scorpion?

Which flows air better?

You actually have experience with the two exact helmets I'm trying to compare, so any input would be really appreciated.

Been wearing HJC for years, and before that Kiwi (remember them?). Bought a Shoei this season because I got a heck of a deal and will most likely never buy any other brand. The fit, comfort and shell size are so much improved over what I have been wearing.

My unofficial test results, and keep in mind I didn't ride the helmets back to back. Got rid of the Shoei with the old bike, few weeks later got the Scorpion with the new bike.:
Shoei is lighter, chin strap was more comfortable, and peripheral visibility is a little bit better. The Shoei flows air better as well.
EXO 1000 is comfortable, flows air good (but not great), face shield changes are a snap, air pump cheek thingies make for a very firm fit, face shield does a good job being fog-free, inside smells icky when brand new (kinda candyish... chocolatey?), and I absolutely love the flip down visor. Just dark enough that I never ride with sunglasses. Lots of reviews bag on the visor because the bottom edge of it is at the lower edge of your vision... kind of cheek level, but I got used to it after a solid day's ride.

If I were to buy a new helmet today, I'd probably go with the EXO 1000 again. It's heavier, but the majority of my riding is commuting and the weight isn't an issue. I'd pick the EXO 1000 for the snug fit of the wonder-bra cheek things and the flip down inner visor and the price. It would be a very tough call tho. The fancy graphics and comfort of the Shoei might sway me back. If you value weight and air flow: Shoei. Features and price: Scorpion.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I tried them both on again and the Scorpion seems to fit my melon more comfortably, and since this is going to be for cold weather riding, the anti-fog is important and air flow not quite as much.

Thanks again.

Glad to help! Just don't scream at me if you hate the Scorpion!

I still have both. I think I fell out of love with the exo because it doesn't fit my head quite right, and is more difficult even with the chin pad gimmick(if you can believe that) to get on and off. The chin strap is also a bit further back than the shoe, making it less comfortable.

Shoe +
-Comfort
-Size(the exo looks huge on your head)
-weight
-airflow
-Slightly less noisy(but not as much as I expected), my specific helmed does whistle from time to time. Could be a small defect.
-Looks. It's a clean helmet with style and really does look great. Also comes in many graphic types.
-It's simply an amazing helmet. No gimmicks.

Scorpion +
-Rebok chin pump makes it nice for high winds if you love a snug helmet that you can actually get off your head.
-The flip down visor is great! Never had a dislike about it. You can also run a clear and still not carry sunglasses.
-Removable pads(Shoei only has removable chins).
-Anti fog shield.

Well, I've got one on the way. Love it or hate it I'm giving you full credit and responsibility. Just be prepared.
