Looks as tho you might get yer wish. Last item in the link. http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2009/Nov/091104a.htm This comes to pass, I don't want to hear anyone on this board say anything about boring runaway races, kzillion dollar salaries, premodonna's or why there's only 50 people in the stands at Daytona. Anyone. |

A little harsh there, 'Grady. My take is that most folks who are against DMG are so because of the way Edmondson alienated manufacturers, riders, and some venues (Miller, for example), not for the racing. I think most will agree the racing was OK, and at some venues was excellent. Even the controversial 'Sportbike' was entertaining. But you just can't anger so many principals and expect to be applauded for your efforts.
The jury is still out whether the AMA will resume ownership of the series (if they even can, legally), or what will happen with the leadership of DMG. At least a race schedule has finally been released, so we can expect to see something next year ...

To quote one professional rider regarding the 2009 AMA season, "The racing was the best part [of the series.]

As it was, it wasn't much. For a long time. A guy comes along, put's whatever on the line and buys the thing. No one else did. Then he's raked over the coals for running his investment as he see's fit It's not like Roger didn't know what he was doing, he pulled that lame ass series off the ground before.. Instead of banding together, in these hard economic times, he's deserted before he even has a chance to let it grow. So now it looks as tho it's back to square one. Lovely. I don't know the guy, never met him. But I've been in business a few times and I know how it goes. Everyone has an answer, but very rarely do anything about the situation. But they're sure quick to judge anybody that does. I feel for the guy. He couldn't have bought the thing at a worse time. And it pisses me off, knowing 2 years from now, there will be a ton of people saying, "What's wrong with Road Racing in the USA? Why doesn't anyone come to the races?" Sorry if I offended anyone, but reality is sometimes, how'd ya say it, harsh. |

Wait and see Grado...Wait and see.
Wouldn't it be cool if MV and Aprillia would enter and fill the big H void? Heck, I think an all Italian series would be wicked ass cool! Maybe Guzzi would crawl back out of their shell. Remember the MGS01! Oooooooo Yea! And Moto-Morini, Benelli, Gilera AND!...Bella! Bella! Andiamo! Whew! I'm sweating. Oh man! an all Brit series (Triumphs and Nortons mate!) and then a war of the worlds finale! Cha! Team Brazil, Team Swiss, Team Japan, USA, Italy, UK....Oh my freaking goodness! Real Live Mass appeal! My gears are fully meshing, Yepper!

the AMA finally just tired of it and Roger ended up with the series. I don't know if he bought it then or had an understanding with the AMA. After 3 or 4 years the AMA had a change of heart and resumed a series of their own when they saw what Roger had going. Attendance was up, he was making money. Roger sued the AMA and was awarded I think around 3 million. I remember getting a letter from the AMA saying they had lost, but money had been set aside and there was no problem. Well, Roger then took a job with Nascar, the AMA kept doing what they do, till Dingman showed up and started it all over again. I really don't get him wanting to give it back. A few seasons of close racing with different brands, it will work. I thought he was strong enough to let the storm die and carry on. I'd be careful if I were Dingman. |

You might want to check your facts.

I don't have a dog in this fight but from reading all the rants on various forums against DMG it seems DMG has pissed off a lot of people. Roger being the main target. True, its his series and he can run it any way he wants. But I think most people here have become used to MotoGP, WSB, WSS etc. and now are having "foriegn" classes foisted upon them. As has been said, its Rogers series and if the manufacturers don't want to make racers to suit his rules that their choice too. I can understand DMG trying to make a level playing field but a level playing field has never been part of racing. Someone always has had an advantage. Add in the fact that it appears that DMG is trying to "nascarize" motorcycle racing and you have a lot of unhappy people. The days of class C racing are gone.
It seems to me that road racing is nothing more than a business to DMG. If that is the case then it will fail. They have to include passion in the equation. They have put a product on the shelf and it looks like a lot of people don't want to buy it. You know, leading horses to water.
