Great pics... I especially got a kick out of seeing Ivan Mauger out there.

I met a young woman from New Zealand a few years ago. She found out I was an avid motorcyclist and commented, "So you're a regular Ivan Mauger, are you?" I thought it was odd that she would know who an obscure Speedway Champ from the 70s was and she told me he was still a big national hero in New Zealand... "Every Kiwi knows who Ivan Mauger is."

Good for Ivan.

I bet there aren't more than 4 or 5 people who post here that have a clue who he is, and we're all motorcyclists. Most American motorcylists don't even know who Bruce Penhall is.

Speedway just isn't very popular here anywhere but on the west coast. I bet not many motorcyclists have a clue who Ivan Mauger is there, either.

It's not my fault, Hoofie.

I know the name Ivan Mauger and have a friend who knew him well. Course, I worked at PsychoNudes and followed speedway a bit - met Bruce and the Basts to name a few. But enough name dropping.

Yes, everyone in Christchurch and probably most Kiwis would know Ivan, but only a handful here.

You're also one of the few who know the name Mike Bast.

I always wondered how he would have done internationally. I bet he could have been a World Speedway champ... but the money he was making in So-Cal was too good to leave.

I suppose mentioning the Milne brothers would be a waste of time too.

Here's Ivan doing a neat job on a horse track.
