Default A practical Sportster

Does Harley use the same market research group that told us that four door pickup trucks wouldn't sell here in America. Just give us a Sportster with suspension for people over five foot four that like to go around corners, a center stand, tach, and a proper bench seat like a Bonneville. It wouldn't be that hard to put these parts on the Superlow at the factory. Harley did this over forty years ago with the XLH.

Years ago in the Ironhead days, Cycle Guide Magazine built their own practical Sportster. I thought the bike looked great in UJM guise.

"we build the first Harley for Harley-haters"

I have to wonder...or would it just be more fuel for the fire?

That's why the Triumph Bonneville has been such a poor seller?

I haven't seen Triumph sales figures for America, maybe you have? From a stricktly observational point of view I'd not call it poor, nor stellar, mediocre maybe. We're talking about America not canada right?
There's a difference in a retro brit bike market appeal and a Sportster with a bench seat appeal I would think, market research has most likely born that out, a dozen saying they want it on internet boards and the number that could be sold are two different things. If there was a market for it shouldn't we be seeing a large after-market business in Sportster bench seats, and more than a couple Sportsters running around with bench seats?
Triumph seems to be the exception to the rule, they're about the only manufacturer with a seat like that these days, but even their seats have grown thinner and not what I would call a true bench seat anymore.

Beulligan, I guess you remember Bob Braverman.

I think mine is practical. No need for a tach, 13.5" shocks made the heighth just right. Ameritex throwovers make it a pseudo bagger.
