Default Begginer need help starting bike.

I bought a kawasaki ninja 500 2002. I have left it in storage over the winter and was trying to get it started up. I charged the battery over night and tried to start it up but it just clicks. Anyone has any suggestions?

Check to make sure the battery cables are on tight. Also sounds like your bike needs a new battery.

Ninja 500's don't store well. My kid's 2004 model is the same way. If it's not ridden regularly, the battery seems to go to he11 real fast.
We've even had his on a battery tender, and it still won't start without a new battery.
No idea why.

I gots the 500 too. Buy the best batt you can. I got a gel type. Some tenders don't do well with the gel type batts, so try and keep 'er running on a regular basis. Gas goes bad quick too. Be sure and change it out once you get it running. Don't forget the bump start....gas on key on, 2nd gear, pop clutch. A little slope will help.

You can always jump start the bike like you would a car to make sure its the battery. Make sure to clamp the negative battery cable to your frame and not the negative battery terminal on the bike. It is most likely the battery. Motorcycle batteries don't like being completely discharged (Dead). The cheaper batteries can only handle this a few times before they won't accept a charge. The better batteries can be discharged slightly nore however the best advice would be to remove the battery while in storage and hook to a battery tender. By the way. If you are using a battery tender to charge it now, the battery tender won't work if the battery is completely dead. It doesn't sense the battery so won't provide current.

I know that I am last but not the least. The sound like you will have to change the battery as soon as far. I have also faced same issue couple of days ago. But When I have changed the battery. Bike is still work better than soon. I hope that You have already changed it.

Have you checked the Electrolyte level of the battery? I was surprised to find out that the lifespan of a motorcycle battery can be maintained by keeping the cells filled to the proper level with distilled water.

Here's a useful website I found:
