Daytona used to be the race of the year. How did Indy get a GP before the birthplace of speed?

Plus, they have a nice bar in the fanzone now.

Plus one on Daytona being awesome. I cant figure why it is such a lame event anymore. The place has sooo much history and connected to bike-week should be a shoe-in for best event of the season...What the heck happened? Could it be that way too many bike week attendees are just into playing "dress-up" and cant connect with racing anymore? Up-town was always a freak-show, that hasnt changed.

No more "Household" names for any of the riders? Lawson, Schwantz, Carruthers, Agostini or Roberts?

Factory bad ass prototypes in Formula 750?

"You have to have the Stars and the Cars to have a good show". Tony Hulman.

Foyt, Andretti, Rutherford, Sneva, Mears, Unser, Sullivan...Wildcat, Penske, Lola, Lotus, March...Most all gone now and Indy is all but dead. Hmmm.

See what I mean?

What the heck happened??!!

Daytona needs Aussies 'n Rossies.

I'm going this year- I kind of like the night racing thing. You get your money's worth in time spent watching racing.

But it is still street bikes.

Laguna was HUGE, sadly though, the AMA won't be there, or at any event with a world presence, in 2010!

IMO, DMG has not only hurt AMA racing in the US, but motorcycle racing as a whole! I fear they're gonna ram some choreographed NASCAR scheme down our throats and alienate American racing from the rest of the world even further.

Would it be so terrible if DMG just adopted the rules and format from WSBK? That series simply WORKS, why not standardize internationally?

Or what about this series Mat Mladin is tweeting about? See http://twitter.com/MatMladin Three races in conjunction with the MotoGP gigs at Laguna and Indy, and one other race, I believe, at Miller? THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING TO SEE!!!

I don't think that the DMG/AMA series' absence will affect the attendence at Laguna Seca AT ALL! Like, I said earlier, it seems like at least half of the fans there are from abroad, mostly Europe. The U.S. fans come from all over the country. They come to watch MotoGP, not AMA. Too bad...

I agree that it would be a good idea to standardize superbike and supersport racing globally, however, most of the tracks here in the U.S. can't conform to the FIM's safety standards. That will need work. It will also require money. Promoters and track owners are reluctant to invest money because of lack of interest... What are ya gonna do?...

Default For all the guys that want DMG gone

Cleveland would rock. The old Cart guys would be glad to be at a track they are familar with. Plus its not that far for a road trip.

When they were looking for a second venue for the MotoGP (before Indy was picked), I was really hoping that Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI) would have got the nod. But I don't know if they (RA) couldn't or wouldn't adopt the safety issues that GP was looking for. The track is beautiful and very long. Imagine seeing the power of the GP machines winding it out on the 4.2 mile track. It would have been awesome. But alas, there are some sections that do not lend itself to ample safety run-offs. RA is a very historic track. Wish there could have been something they could have worked out.

I'm with you on GP at RA. If safe, it would be great.
