Aw, what kind of defeatist attitude is that? If you want a sportbike, get one! Screw The Man!
I want a bike that has pegs so high that my boots are touching my buttocks! I want the clip ons right above the front axle! And dress it up with all manner of funky scoops, points and cut outs, please, for I am Cap'n Apex!

Na, it all depends on how "sporting" you think you are. The "plastic back-aches on wheels" are sportbikes because of marketing types have labeled them as so. It wasn't long ago, a "Cafe Bike" was considered a sportbike...Who changed the requirements?
The "Near Racer" tech and look fit the current definition but "sports" on two wheels with a motor, covers allot of ground. The high peg placement could be applied to a trials bike, no? I've got a better one for ya to ponder...Which is more sporting, a 450 moto-crosser, or a liter class race replica? Both Race ready?...Hmmm. Sole purpose specific?...Hmmm. Diversity is cool aint it!

It's all too fuzzy nowdays.
Relative to the 80s, 3/4 of the new japanese & Euro bikes could be considered sportbikes. Relative to the 60s & 70s, 9/10 of them could be called sportbikes. It's all relative. You are splitting hairs between "sportbike", "sport/touring", "supermotard" and others these days. they're all UJMs.

I would say all the handling characteristics everyone is mentioning with an extension of what Bikki said. "has to be wierd looking."
Usually associated or similar in build, look, and design to a bike that has clip-on handlebars in it's original design and doesn't fall into the category of "custom." P.S.- This isn't a definition, just a general rule of how to spot one withint the "stereotype." Usually...... LOL! Last edited by Jester1920; 11-04-2009 at 05:53 PM. |
