Hey John! The thing about the miss is..when does this occur? If under load, I would suspect ignition, if at idle it could be a sticking EGR valve, leaking intake manifold gasket or other vacuum leak, possible injector, etc.
Gimme a ph# and I'll try and walk you through a quick diagnosis.
Sorry about the loss of Les Paul...but if the value goes up, I might sell them to buy another bike--a '10 V-Strom650. We shall see.

Hi Terry, mind if I pick your brain?
My 98 Nissan Frontier (2.4 4cyl/5spd/4x4) has started to miss. Today I did the simple things like changing out the cap/rotor/plugs/wires and even put in some sea foam into the gas tank to try out. It just seems to start a bit better now but I still get this pretty bad miss randomly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.....John

BTW, have got your Les Pauls out since we lost Mr Paul this week?

Hi Terry Got a question about a pal's 2001 Mazda 626 LX, V6 engine. Has broken two of the radiator overflow resevoirs. Mazda dealer is said to have said "that again?" indicating lots of failures. Any insights or suggestions.

Sorry for the imposition. my wifes 02 pt cruiser is overheating. All related bits have been replaced and now i find that the ECM is the culprit. Maybe you know if they can be re-flashed or electronicly repaired instead of replacement? My Chrysler dealer is knd of stone age and has just poked around running up a bill. Thanks for your expertise. Wiz.

    Hello, Terry!

Many moons ago, I asked you some questions about a Catalyzer Deficiency code my 1998 Chevy S10 displayed. You gave me some troubleshooting tips, and, based on the info I gave you, also concluded that the converter was most likely bad and needed replacement.

I had the converter replaced, and the code went away.

Figured you liked having this information to put into your personal database of sucessful repairs.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the offer Terry. I'll call up Farm and Fleet Tomarrow and do some more searching in the Rockford area. I was given a line that it was so expensive since it was over 8 years old. Midas welded a little something today for $30 bucks so it isn't open header anymore, but its still louder than it should be. The exhause pipes are pretty rusty and so is the gas tank. If I had a job I would send it down the road ASAP.

Mind if I ask a truck related question???
OK, I went to Midas to get a quote on a new exhaust for my truck. Its a 1998 Nissan Frontier extended cab 4WD with a 2.4 4cyl, and only 84,XXX miles. I was quoted over $1000. This seems way too high, what do you think???
btw the muffler and tail pipe assembly was replaced in November.
