<div>We just uncrated and test rode our new '07 GSXR1000 this weekend. Unfortunately, I was not the test rider, BUT I obviously got the review from the mechanic that did. </div><div> </div><div>According to him, the new '07 is both stronger, and way more controllable than last years model. I didn't think they made any real engine changes for '07 but apparently I was wrong. After doing some research, the new model has larger valves, larger intake and exhaust ports, a hotter cam, and 12 hole injectors at a more direct angle than last years 4 hole versions. Performance is definatly up, and the new 3 performance setting switch (lets you tune the power a bit with a push of a button on the handlebar) is cool, but according to him is more a novelty than a real feature. He noticed a difference when it was set on &quot;wet&quot; but the upper two positions were very similar.</div><div> </div><div>The downside? I thought the fit and finish actually was worse than last years model. That neat grey titanium exhuast of last year, has been replaced by two black units, with a chrome cover on their front a-la gs500 style. What a crock! theres a gap about a half inch wide between where the chrome cover ends and the muffler begins! you'll have to see it to know what i'm talking about, but I was not a fan. Oh yes, the riders only other complaint is that having a muffler on the left side takes some getting used to. His heal kept touching it. </div><div> </div><div>Just when you think that liter bikes can't get much faster, they do. </div>

<div>I like the looks of the '07, but so I did the '06. I'm in the minority, but I also really liked that big titanium muffler on the '06 and if I had one would have kept the stock setup, for the looks alone.</div><div> </div><div>That being said, it's hard to argue with Suzuki's success with the big Gixxer, perennially the best liter bike, and their uncanny ability to build the best big fourbangers:</div><div> </div><div><span class="normal"><em>&quot; The Suzuki Advanced Exhaust System (SAES) features equal length head pipes feeding a collector, a short mid-pipe and a unique under engine chamber that leads to two short aluminum and titanium mufflers on each side. This system nearly doubles exhaust internal volume while lowering the center of gravity, centralizes the mass and improving aerodynamics. A proven Suzuki Exhaust Tuning (SET) valve finds a home on the mid pipe and the combination of the Suzuki PAIR system, a catalyzer and a oxygen sensor equipped closed loop engine management system work in conjunction to reduce emissions and improve engine efficiency.&quot;</em></span></div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div>I didn't like the looks of the big grey can at first, but it grew on me. Right now, I really like the big titanium exhaust, but the two units on the '07 aren't as nice as the one on the '06 IMO. The fit and finish just isn't as good, and they are now black instead of grey. </div><div> </div><div>The other neat thing about the exhaust on the '06, is that it was tuned almost perfectly for that motor. I don't think any of the aftermarket pipes I've installed on '05/'06 gsxrs offered any improvement over stock. you couldn't buy one as good as the stocker, and if you could, it'd probably cost you big bucks for a 1-2 hp gain. Not worth it.</div><div> </div>

<div>I like the 07 gixxer and think that the dual smaller cans look way better than a single pipe.....</div><div> </div><div>the bike also comes with a gear indicator, electronic steering damper, 3 mode power settings and two trip odometers...all for 11,000...talk about bang for the buck</div><div> </div><div>what i don't like is the fact that the paint jobs looks as if they were created by an explosion in a crayon factory..thats why i got the yellow 10r..</div><div> </div><div>all the liter bikes are so close in performance that I pick them by looks.</div><div> </div><div>I read a blip on the gixxer in sport rider....first time ever i heard one of the writers say that a bike has too much power for the street and thinks the best module for the street is &quot;wet conditions&quot; IE: the lowest power rating...</div>

<div>I can't believe Suzuki put dual exhaust on this bike! If they wanted to change the exhaust why would they not go underseat like the R1, CBR or Duc even GPstyle like the 600 and 750. They don't even use the dual exhaust on the Superbikes in AMA. I have an 06 and I was really looking forward to seeing what the 07 was going to look like. I don't even want to discuss the colors besides the blue and white the other two or hideous. Y did the USA not get the red and black. What side does the passenger dismount the bike know either direction and you risk your girlfriend gettn toasted. You want to purchase a slipon congratulations you get to buy 2 now instead of one. O would you like to change the exhaust from 2 to 1 more money. I am so disappointed with Suzuki on the appearance of this bike I know they really did good on the engine and performance but those two cans are horrible. I would like to see them not wait two years before they change this bike atleast the exhaust system and colors. </div>

<div></div><div></div><div>I just bought this bike in march and my first impression was that I loved the way it performed and looked, but hated the way it sounds. With the stock cans, it is so quiet that its irritating. To fix it ,along with other things, I put on a couple yosh trc carbon slip-ons and a leo-vince link pipe. Problem solved, sounds grrrrreat!!</div><div> Other apperance issues made me put on a puig fender eliminator and dark smoke windsceen, and now its perfect for me. Love everything about it. BTW- its already had a recall for a rotor replacement in the generator, in case anyone owns one and hasnt been notified. Takes them about 1 1/2 hrs to do. </div><div> Personally, i like the colors as mine is pretty close to the colors of my beloved Steelers. And dual exhaust might weigh and cost more, but i really like the way it looks and sounds, with the right cans. To me its worth it.</div><div> PS- To anyone who is a new rider and wants to buy this bike, please refer to &quot;Buttcrack's&quot; response to the &quot; Im a newbie ....&quot; thread. I blew a mouthful of iced tea all over my laptop. </div><br><br>Message Edited by aerohead on <span class="date_text">06-13-2007</span> <span class="time_text">05:35 PM</span>

If your gf is wearing anything even close to good gear she won't get burned by the pipe, especially if you take the time to show her how to dismount properly. I do agree about the colors and they fairing lines have gotten kind of fussy.

<div>I picked up one of these bikes last weekend and cannot believe, after all the hype, how much bottom end power it lacks! Sure it pulls hard up top and would be great on the track but I already have a race bike and was looking for something that would be fun on the street.... Not this bike!</div><div>I'll be droppping some teeth and messing with the power curze to try and resolve this issue but if I have no luck I'll be back on an R1 quick smart!</div>

<div>if your R1 will pull harder than you GSXR down low, then the suzuki isn't running right. Of all the liter bikes, the R1 is (by far!) the worst when it comes to midrange power. The suzuki should stomp it petty much througout the rpm range.</div><div> </div><div>Odd to see this thread resurface after so long....must of done a search I guess.</div>

<div>Yeah, it dosn't seem right does it???</div><div>I have a few people ride both and they all agree, plus it doesn't feel as though the GSXR has anything wrong with it. I asked a dealer an was told that's how they are...</div>

<div>only thing I can think of off the top of my head, is to double check the air filter. I've seen a couple of CBR1000RR's with the same problem, no bottom end power, but they still run great. Both cases were caused by overfilled oil, which plugged up the air filter (via the crankcase breather).</div><div> </div><div>Just a thought...</div>

<div>Sorted! Dropped two teeth off the front and found the torque... Feels great.</div><div>Must just be too used to the race bike.</div>

<div> hey aerohead-just wanted to mention-that i love the sound of a great pipe/motor. but i must say that when riding a liter bike i like to keep a low profile. why bring more attention to yourself.i mean why should i advertise for more tickets! i'll take the quiet gsxr thou anyday!</div>

I am sure that is pulls really <strong>hard</strong> now. Monster wheelies too. ;)</div><div> </div><div>If this is purely a street bike, you might want to google &quot;speedo healer&quot;... 2 teeth will add a lot of error. Or maybe this will save you from yourself. :p</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Chris</div><div> </div></div>
