<div>I got lots of these emails when I was selling my R1100R. They can be fun if you ask the seller to meet you, or tell him you recognize his IP address and will have a friend visit him soon about the bike for sale. They back off real quick.</div>

<div>I ask them to send naked pictures of their wife/mother/girlfriend/daughter and we'll do business.</div><div>I guess I can understand how lonely old people who are trusting can fall victim to these things, but motorcycle owners you'd think would know better. The BS must pay off or they wouldn't be doing it, though.</div>

<div>read in the st. louis post just 2 days ago...some county treasurer from michigan lost $185,000 to european "investments". The bank accounts were traced back to...guess where...Nigeria.</div><div> </div><div>There is something like $400,000 still missing, noone knows where it went. The treasurer was in jail for embezzlement from the state of michigan when I read the article.</div><div> </div><div>Just one score like that is enough for them to keep trying I guess, even if they get shot down 99.9% of the time.</div>

<div>I think any e-mail i've ever seen with the word "cheque" in it is a scam. You would think they would catch on and know that around here, they aren't "cheques", they're "checks"</div><div> </div><div>At least here in the midwest they are....not sure about elsewhere. </div>

<div></div><div>Check out this fraudulent auction on EBay.</div><div> </div><div>I sent him a message asking where the motorcycle is located and got this back.</div><div> </div><div>Link has been deleted.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div><font size="2">Hello,<br><br>I am glad to see you are interested in purchasing my motorcycle. First of all I want to tell you that I'm not at home, where the item is located. Because of my job I have to move all the time. Now I am located in Dublin, Ireland. I work for a worlwide company. This is a good thing for you because I have connections and I can ship it for free. The price I hope to obtain is $ 3,500.00. The bike has no electrical or mechanical problems. It has never been raced or abused. Believe this bike has no problem at all. The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy. In order to start the official transaction, I need to know your details:<br> -full name and shipping address<br> -eBay user ID<br>As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure and eBay will notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines and payment instructions from them (please go through them exactly). I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you + I am willing to deduct you with the fee for handling the payment procedure. We will use eBay's Escrow Insurer to manage the payment. It is the safest way for both of us and also you will have 10 days to inspect the product before I receive the money. Also, a refund policy will be included.<br><br>Looking forward to hearing from you.<br><br>Thanks,<br>John</font><br><br></div><div> </div><p>Message Edited by andoulli on <span class="date_text">02-17-2007</span><span class="time_text">01:24 PM</span></p>

<div><strong><u>3,500, </u></strong>boy is he willing to take a loss. According to N.A.D.A. that bike is worth between $8,880-$11,680.:D So he is either an idiot or, as you said, it is a scam. The old adage holds true: If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. </div>

<div></div><div>I contacted EBay regarding this fraudulent auction, and they have removed it, therefore the link should no longer work.</div><div> </div><div>As for the sale of my motorcycle, the scam hits just keep coming. Of course they all have a common theme, and yet each is a little different. They are all alike in that the scam involves shipping the bike and payment by check. Interesting that you see this rip-off both from bike buyers and bike sellers. Here is most recent.</div><div> </div><div>Tim</div><div> </div><div><span>Hello,</span><br><span>I just place a look on your item and i am interested</span><br><span>in immediate purchase of this item, but before i proceed</span><br><span>on this transaction i will like to ask some question as follow.</span><br><br><span>1.What is the condition of the item?</span><br><br><span>2. <div>It's gotten kind of funny that, after you make a list, then go back to the garage and re-check it, go back again to get the manufacturers name of some part you added, etc, spend 4 paragraphs writing detailed descriptions of every aspect of the bike (including it willingness to pull with a passenger at high altitudes and it's Briggs and Stratton Aptitude Test), The Buyer From Hell always asks, "What is the condition please?"</div>
<div>The hazards of online advertising. It's things like this that lead me to trade in to a dealer, even though I know I'm losing several grand in some cases.</div><div> </div><div>Better to get a couple thou less than lose it all to some swindler. I hate that it's come to this.</div>

Andoulli, would you be so kind as to go back and break that link up, or delete it entirely?<br>It's being listed on a single line, which stretches the displayed page to the point where you<br>have to scroll back and forth to read the messages.<br><br>Regarding Nigeria, I saw an article in the paper recently, where there's a new scam going on.<br>They're sending out "work at home with your own computer" spams. Nothing new there, I guess<br>but what they want people to do, is recieve goods that were purchased fraudulently (of course<br>they won't tell you that part), usually with stolen credit card info. You repackage the goods<br>and send them to someone in Europe, who will then ship them on to Nigeria.<br>This is because most US shippers won't ship items directly to Nigeria any longer.<br>Of course all the packaging and shipping is done at your expense, with promises to reimburse you<br>and pay you a generous salary.<br><br>I read once that fraud is the biggest industry in Nigeria, even though they have huge oil<br>reserves in that country.
