very nice. I'm in the process of building a BMW cafe in the style of the 50's Rennsport. These pics are inspiring.
Now yer talking. Great photo! where was this? I'm using a 72 R75/5 with a later model /7 fuel tank...(so far, it had the knee cut-outs I was looking for) was going to update the forks, (have to ride it on the street and I just happen to have a nice set laying about..) If I could find a set of earls forks that didn't cost a fortune, I would use them, however...

man, I could stare at that bike all day......
I have seen Earls put on /5 frames before- for sidecar use. For best handling, i would think they'd be heavy, though. Notice how the down-tubes on that bike curve back, also.
Hackasaw may have, or know where to get, some Earls. If Hacksaw (no A in the middle) is putting regular forks on his, he may have some, also.

Nice exotica there, Mr Shines. You put up some nice posts even if you don't have a motorcycle.
And never rode it if you did.
Sounds like you've got a tasty project going there Brother Monk. Some pictures would be nice, maybe start a thread on it before ernie gnaws his toenails to the qwik.

The picture of the BMW I posted came off a sight in German language so I'm guessing it's from there.
Yep, those qualify as "stupendous mammalian protruberances" as Frank Zappa used to say....I do hope her pits don't stink, though.....

Odd bit of technology in that Parilla. The cam only has a single lobe that operates the intake and exhaust valves. The 'lobe center' is determined by the included angle between the valves and both intake and exhaust valves have the same lift and duration.

I was thinking the same thing about the "stupendous mammalian protruberances." Definitely a nice touch by the artist.

The bike is a late fifties Victoria Parilla 175, not sure exactly how their valvetrain works, but those "little black thingies" may be short pushrods? Doesn't really look like a sidevalve to me, but I could be wrong. Somebody here, Carlo, Hacka, etc. may have some knowledge.

Here's a different angle
Parilla started out as the Parilla Soda & Carbonation Company in some little Italian town I can't remember. Early to mid 1800s as I remember. When Coca Cola bought out the technology for use in the 'States- which they then patented, Parilla was left with a LOT of machinery and parts. Just on a whim, one of the sons decided to try his hand at motorcycles using parts left over. (That's basically how Vespa got started, too, BTW).
So, those "things" you see are non-functional. One is for soda, the other is for root beer.
The black things are short pushrod covers.

Here's a shot of the tower containing the gear drive for the single lobed cam. Lobe separation is set by the angle of the pushrods (which match the included valve angle).
Just got my stats for my website & I noticed a lot of referrals from Cycleworld recently, not sure why but everyone is welcome!

The gear setup on the engine pic posted (my engine) is rare, normally a chain setup is used. Couple of pix attached which are not on the site. They are beautiful engines & can be made fast & reliable. The bike shown is my own MSDS 175 gear drive cam production racer which was used in both 2002/4 Motogiro D'Italia events. Purists will not like the Amal carb but most of the originality purists end up with original style breakdowns!

Thanks for the interest ...& happy xmas !
