<div>After being smeared by left turn Sally and nearly dieing I am wondering if there is any real advantage to wearing a bright yellow jacket and helmet etc.? I was also told about some sort of strobe light for day time riding . A deffenive attitude does not seem to be enough and I have realized how exposed motorcyclists are. I want to continue riding on the street but am a bit nervous of course.</div>

I figure that helps somewhat, but I don't think the vest or strobe light are any better.</div><div> </div><div>Of the car crashes I've been in (none on the bike, knock on wood) they seem to mostly be:</div><div>1) someone side swiping me in a lane change = not checking their blind spots</div><div>2) pulling onto the road without checking traffic = again, simply not looking first</div><div>3) rear ending me = not paying attention or leaving enough room to stop</div><div> </div><div>I've also had a couple that were my fault, but they don't help prove a point so I'm not going to mention those. ;)</div><div>From the other examples, however, you can pretty well see that visibility of the crashee really didn't play a part in the crash. They were, in fact, caused by a driver who simply wasn't paying any attention and was going to strike whatever was in their path; whether a motorcycle, car, or cement mixer.</div><div> </div><div>Still, it's your money and buying those things certainly won't make you any <u>less </u>visible... so if you want em, get em. ;)</div>

<div>Theres not much protection from car drivers who are in fantasy land as they drive down the road. this is why Im nervous about riding on the street again. Offroad is alot safer as there is nobody but the trees.</div>

I've thought of a headlight modulator, other bikes that I have seen with them do tend to stand out.<br><br>It just seemed like a slippery slope, next I'll be wearing Neon and then comes the roll bar and airbags... sigh.<br><div></div>
