I know Schott leather jackets have been around for a long time? Are they still considered quality leathers?

For "Basic Black," Peter Egan's "brief social history of the black leather jacket" (CW, September, 1997), Schott (800/631-5407; www.schottnyc.com) provided us with its Classic Racers jacket. Beautifully turned out, it featured a zip-out pile liner, snap-down collar and underarm vents, but no armor. At the time, retail was $350; now, it goes for $385. Not much of a markup after nearly a decade...

Schott jackets have been and still are good quality. If you like the classic look (and don't mind paying a considerable sum for it), you might also want to consider Langlitz (http://www.langlitz.com/). Custom made, quality construction, timeless design. Sure, it will probably cost more than your first bike did, but then again you will NEVER have to replace it. Langlitz jackets routinely outlive their owners, and they just look and feel better the older they get.
