Form should follow function but when I look at that bobbed tail I start to chuckle--and then I look at that rear fender and laugh and laugh. Honda's designers should ask someone what to do because those boys would be more at home designing displays at wallmart. And by the way Kevin Cameron, you should be slapped silly for even mentioning F1 grooved tires and MotoGP in the same sentence--if that happened senior ladies golf would give a once magnificent sport a run for the money.

<div>If I can speak for KC (always dangerous in my case), he pointed out that unless your have a long, streamlined tailsection that tapers to a point several feet behind the bike, the shape of the seat cowl doesn't matter aerodynamically-speaking, so just make it big enough to support the rider and be done with it.</div><div> </div><div>DE</div>

<div> </div><div>I am not liking the pictures that I've seen of it also. I am liking the #1 on it though. :D</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Chris</div><div> </div>

Well I think that short rear is kinda cool, and as for the #1 SWEET. Anyway, anthing new is always met with skeptisism till it's proven effective. Gotta agree with Edwards on this one.

<div>I dont see much of a problem with the tail. Honestly I'm suprised it took them this long to get rid of the tail on motogp bikes. For a race bike it's a totally unnecessary piece of equipment. Even if it's made of carbon fiber, its still only added weight that isn't necessary, as long as the bikes make 325 lbs (i think thats what it is) why would you add any more?</div><div> </div><div>as edwards mentioned, a tail offers no aerodynamic benefit anyways. I'm sure honda knows what they are doing, they seem to do well enough in motogp, and every other type of racing they get into. </div>

<div>I'll predict that in a year or two you may just look back at it and say: &quot;that didn't look so bad afterall.&quot;</div>

<div>Ha! You wish you had that pos. That has to be the best looking bike since the Trident Hurricane.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>I especially like the fender thing. Looks just like the fender on my stingray bike I had as a kid.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Now, if only they would wise up and put a banana boat seat on it...................................</div>

Here is a letter I emailed to Cycle World today. Sent it before I saw the discussion here:<br><br>Gentleman,<br><br>Perhaps you could explain (or at least speculate) on HRC's rational for chopping off the tail of their new 800cc MotoGP bike.<br><br>For years I have read, and come to except, that closing the air pocket with an appropriately shaped seat/tail section is just as important, aerodynamically speaking, as opening the gap with a properly designed fairing.<br><br>Now we have Kevin Cameron suggesting that HRC wisely bobbed the tail off the new GP bike because, well, hey, they don't really do anything anyway and that no-one push starts their bike anymore?<br><br>Have the laws of aerodynamics changed or were all those big, bulbous, hump-style racing seats just misdirected efforts or even worse ... just fashion?<br><br>Thanks,<br><br>Lawrence Somma<br>Stamford, CT<br><br>PS If tail sections really do do nothing, aerodynamically speaking ... that is rather big news .. no? Why hasn't anyone come to this conclusion before now?

I smile everytime I see Nicky in front of Dani...on the bike custom fitted for Dani!<br><br>Don't understand all the fuss on the RCV. Kinda looks like a Buell Lightning tail, minus the rear fender ;-)

<div></div><div>I'm sure Eric Buell would be stoked to read that, like he is seeing that liitle nub of an exhuast poking out the side of the Honda's belly. </div><p>Message Edited by CW1Cernicky on <span class="date_text">02-02-2007</span><span class="time_text">04:27 PM</span></p>

<div></div><div>In contrast to the factory Honda, the KR212V appears quite conventional. I enjoy the variety.</div>
