<div>Got new pods for the 400/4 and put Klotz foam oil on them, used paper towels to soak up the excess. </div><div>I've tried Simple Green and Dawn detergent but when I try to tighten the hose clamp the ding-dong things just squeeze right off.</div><div>Should I use that gasket stuff that comes in a tube, belt dressing, roofing nails, or what ? !</div>

"pods"?<br><br>Is my nomenclature that out of date? "Pods"?<br>What's a "pod"?<br><br>From your description of the way these "pods" are behaving, it sounds like badly fitted K and N air filters. Sometimes, if there isn't much of a flange on them, they squeeze off the carbs when you try to tighten the hose clamps. This was a big problem with the old Amals that were threaded for velocity stacks if you didn't have the little rings that threaded on to cover the threads.

<div>Sorry. UniFilter individual foam air filters/filter pods. They're the only company that I can find that makes the right size- pretty small. 2 1/4" if I remember right. </div><div>The problem is that Klotz oil is the most pernicious glop from hail I've seen in a long time. It seems once it touches something it NEVER completely goes away. I've cleaned the beans out of the rims of the filters and they just slide right off the carbs. </div><div>If I don't get any bright ideas soon, I guess I'll try the - well, I just realized: the nails won't work because I can't really get in there with a hammer. Back to square one.</div>

<div><strong>Hi Ernie... How about some gasolene on a paper towel to clean the Klotz off the rubber mount and the carburator edges????</strong></div>

<div>Good idea. Tried gas on a terry towel-</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> - and they're still as slippery as cat sheit in the rain. Sooo- I rubbed some gasket schmutz around the inside edges and I'll try again tomorrow.</div>

<div>You didn't clean it good enough, use another clean section of towel, sheesh don't you help with the dishes? The gas is just kinda mixing with the oil like premix? Maybe try goof off.</div>

<div>Thank you. <strong> I</strong> do the cooking and <strong>I</strong> do the dishes at my house.</div><div>Looks like the gasket schmear is going to work, unless they vibrate off later. Anyway, they feel pretty good now.</div>

<div>I find laquer thinner takes off just about anything. Don't let it soak or the rubber is toast, found that out the hard way.</div>

<div>You could also run a bead of "yellow death" around the (cleaned) carb spigot - and it to dry/cure on the spigot - to give the foam filter a place to bite.</div><div> </div><div>Sounds to me like you got a little carried away with the lube -</div><div> </div><div>As mentioned, you may be able to get by with cleaning the filter area that contacts the carb and move on. Not good when one plonks off during a ride though . . .</div><div> </div><div>Yellow death:</div><div> </div><div>http://shop.sailnet.com/images/ls/71-08001.jpg</div>

<div></div><div>For what its worth, K & N still makes a variety of pods that they no longer bother to put in their catalog. I bought a set for my RE Interceptor. I had to call and talk to them about it and provide the measurements though. </div><div> </div><div>Nothing wrong with Uni's though. I have them in the MK II Commando. They squish into the available space real well. It has 34mm Mikunis and not much space for air cleaners. Its had Uni's since the 70's and they were rotten. I was happy to find new ones about 5 years ago. Didn't know they still made them.</div><div> </div><div> </div>
